We are hearing the word ‘reform’ a lot lately- pick up any US publication or visit any media site and and we see and hear about the health care reform.
In my travels to the US I am finding a fearful response to the idea of a ‘reform’. If we think about it what any of us fears when facing a reform is a complete change from what we have known, uncertainty and fear of losing what we have gained.
From a business sense organizations are facing ‘reforms’ of how they do business and the voice of the customer is louder than ever before. From a personal standpoint many are reforming their finances, their relationships and their beliefs about their future.
As we move from a society that is focused on self interest and personal gain to a more evolved society that reforms the status quo for the ‘greater good for all’ there are definitely challenges and ’storming of the norms’ that are happening.
Rather than be afraid of reform we can take the opportunity to examine our own personal fears, biases and concerns. Reform is just another word for ‘disruptive change’. Innovation always follows disruptive change and although we can all claim to handle change well the reality is we handle change that we can ‘control’ better than disruptive change.
Take a look at your thoughts around reform and change and be willing to challenge you long held beliefs to make way for the inevitable innovation that follows reforms.
