Cheryl's Quick Tip: Encourage Gossip

Yes! Positive gossip is to be encouraged and negative gossip to be deflected. Let’s face it gossip is never going to go away- we all love to talk about other people. However negative gossip can be utterly destructive to say nothing for how it could destroy your credibility in a heartbeat. Here’s how to focus on positive gossip:

When someone gossips negatively about someone or you start to share negative gossip ask yourself the following:

  • "Do I know this person well enough to confirm or deny or comment?"
  • "How would this person feel if they found out I had said this?"
  • "Do I know if this is completely true?"

In the case of positive gossip go ahead and share! Nothing boosts positive feelings all around then telling others good things you heard about them or passing on to others good news. I once worked with a gentleman who never had a bad thing to say about anyone and guess what—everyone loved him. He got promoted quickly within his career and when I asked his VP boss what he liked most about this gentleman he said, “He never has bad thing to say about anyone---so I am confident he won’t have a bad thing to say about me!”

Quote of the Month: “Never tell evil of a man, if you do not know it for certainty and if you know it for a certainty, then ask yourself, “Why should I tell it?”
Johann K Lavater

February's Article: More Than one….Partnering for Increased Success

Do any of these phrases sound familiar to you?

  • “I can do it better alone since I know what’s been going on”
  • “No one else has the background knowledge that I have to do this properly”
  • “It just won’t get done right if anyone else does it”

All of the above statements are usually said by someone who has tremendous talent at getting things done. However, there is a dark side to this when our need for doing it ourselves outweighs our willingness to bring others in to support us.Click here for full article
