Cheryl's Quick Tip: Quick Step Your Way through Conflict

Okay, you find yourself in a conflict because something you said or did caused a chain reaction of unfortunate events. Perhaps you forgot to follow through on an item, or did not communicate a vital piece of information.

You don’t want to look stupid, you don’t want to appear incompetent and you don’t want to loose face. The quickest way through the conflict is simple and yet hard for many to do. The solution is to simply admit your part in the fiasco and then provide instant solutions to rectify the problem. There ain’t no shame in taking the blame in fact people will respect us at higher levels if we admit and then do something about it. Quick tip: own it, admit you’ve blown it and then solve and show it.

Quote of the Month: "Accomplishment will prove to be a journey, not a destination." Dwight D Eisenhower

November's Article: Clients Who Are Doing It Right - Part II

Last month I shared information on a client of mine in Portland in the home building industry. This month I would like to cover off a client in Kelowna in the hearing aid industry who is not only leading edge in his industry but has also been nominated for a business excellence award in his community. I have worked with this client a number of times in a variety of different ways. We did a customer service and sales seminar for the management team and then worked together on specific projects such as finalizing a customer care process manual and recently an afternoon keynote to roll out the finished process to the entire team. This client owns 11 hearing aid clinics throughout the Okanagan and has consistently grown the business year over year. Here’s how.

Question of the month: How do I stay positive and motivate others in an environment where there is lots of change and some negative people?

Answer:

It’s tough to stay energized and motivated when going through lots of change and having negative people to deal with as well. The fact is if you are ‘filling your own cup’ you will find that others negativity won’t affect you as much. Ultimately negative situations and people force us to make a choice about our future. We can either accept the situation, change our approach or methods or lastly we can leave after trying hard to accept and change. To fill your cup you must do things for your own good such as exercise, read positive books- listen to music, take a yoga class anything that makes you feel better about yourself. Schedule time in your palm pilot or blackberry with no excuses. There is a great book called “Thank You So Much For Being a Pain” which provides an excellent perspective on negative people.

Next month: The Power of More Than One….Partnering for Increased Success.
