Cheryl has a retail background- she worked for McDonald’s as a teen, and then a retail clothing store, a drugstore chain Shoppers Drug Mart and then spent 10 years as a leader in retail banking at BMO Bank of Montreal.
The retail industry is transforming with the increase in online sales, loss prevention from online sales and increasing competition for the millennial market. The largest buying demographic remains the Zoomers (baby boomers who refuse to age) but the next largest is the millennial demographic.
Mobile marketing is changing the way the millennials buy and shop- the Starbucks app now let’s buyers scan their phone and pay for their purchase. This is the future of technology and the retail industry. Leaders in the retail industry are struggling with attracting and retaining Generation Y retail staff and Gen X and Zoomer bosses are working hard to keep on top of the constant hiring and training cycle.
There are great opportunities to harness the technological transformations of the retail industry and increase business while creating a workplace that attracts and retains good people.
